Orthodontics

An effective long-term solution to straightening your teeth and correcting your bite is orthodontics. Orthodontics is a subspecialty area in dentistry that focuses on aligning and straightening teeth using wires and brackets that apply force to the teeth to move them into a particular position. The discipline has advanced over decades and today treatment is a lot shorter and more comfortable than it was in the past.

Patients who have problems with their bite and the way their top and bottom teeth line up against each other should consider having orthodontic treatment. Treatment does require good oral hygiene habits by the patient and regular visits to the practice for check-ups and adjustments. Depending on the extent of the alignment required with your teeth, treatment can take from several months to a year with reliable results. Thanks to fixed permanent retention you can be assured that your teeth won’t move after treatment is completed.

The main benefit of having orthodontic treatment is that straighter teeth are healthier teeth. When your bite is properly aligned and your teeth are straightened, there are less gaps and areas for food to get trapped and plaque to build up on the teeth, causing decay. In that sense, orthodontics is a long-term investment in your oral health.

Invisible Braces

There is a solution to having straighter teeth without having to wear metal braces. Known as invisible orthodontics, this type of treatment offers you the choice of wearing a clear and sometimes removable appliance while straightening and aligning your teeth.
This is often a favourable option for adults who have professional careers and don’t feel comfortable wearing unsightly ‘train track’ braces for months on end. The technology behind invisible orthodontics is highly advanced and often gives patients a much shorter treatment time, depending on their individual cases.
Benefits of this type of treatment include having teeth straightened in a generally shortened period of time, straighter teeth and alignment of your top and bottom jaws. You can also enjoy the flexibility of your braces being hidden from an untrained eye, making you feel less self-conscious when socialising or speaking in public. With removable devices you can also take them out to eat or for special occasions, so they fit around your lifestyle.

Facial Aesthetics

Wrinkle Reduction with Botulinum Toxin
BOTOX® is probably the best known and most popular cosmetic treatment for lines and wrinkles that have been caused by everyday frowning, laughing and smiling.
Botulinum Toxin is internationally established as a highly effective and safe way to treat forehead lines, frown lines and eye wrinkles and has been used for over 30 years without any known long-term problems
The benefit of having this treatment done by dentists is that they have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the facial anatomy and can perform this delicate work in a precise and safe manner.

Facial Aesthetics
It works by blocking the nerve impulses to the small facial muscles that create our expressions and is administered through tiny local injections, thus leaving the skin looking smoother. The procedure is very quick, the effects becoming visible within 48-72 hours, with the maximum effect being reached in 2 weeks. The results last 3-4 months. Follow up procedures are recommended if results are to be maintained.

White Fillings

One option to improve the cosmetic look of your smile is to have your metal-coloured fillings replaced with tooth-coloured or ‘white’ fillings. This is a safe procedure that entails one of our dentists removing any decay from your tooth, taking out the metal filling and placing a tooth coloured filling instead.
As dentists we believe prevention is always better than cure and will always encourage and help you to look after your teeth so you don’t develop tooth decay in the first place. If you do have decay and need a filling then we recommend white fillings as a good solution that is both aesthetic and functional.

Porcelain Veneers

Are your teeth stained, chipped, or not aligned on top of each other? Veneers are a good treatment option to consider because they look like natural teeth and don’t require a major procedure.
A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain (like a false finger nail) that is bonded on top of your own tooth. Based on your needs, we can adjust the shape of your veneers to make your teeth overall look longer and or closer together. You can have just one veneer or a whole set, known as a smile makeover.
For a single stained tooth we can also match the precise shade of porcelain to give it a lighter appearance and fit in with the surrounding teeth. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when braces are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.

Teeth Whitening

Do you have stained teeth that make you feel self-conscious about smiling? Teeth whitening can be a great solution for certain types of tooth staining.
Teeth can be stained by foods, drinks, smoking and certain medications. Teeth whitening is a safe procedure that can lighten the colour of your teeth by using a safe dental bleaching agent. Individual results vary and are based upon your initial tooth colour and the nature of the staining.
A beautifully bright natural smile can build our confidence, making us feel healthier and happier.
We offer a supervised home whitening treatment that provides excellent results. Our professional whitening system is formulated to significantly improve the appearance and shade of your teeth.
We custom-make a lightweight plastic mouth tray for you that fits snugly over your teeth. You then put the whitening gel provided inside the tray and wear it at night or for a few hours during the day. Results are normally seen over 3-4 weeks and your teeth will also appear whiter and brighter. You may find that your teeth become more sensitive than usual during the treatment and for a few days afterwards, but these symptoms soon disappear.
The first step is to arrange a consultation with one of our dentists so your teeth can be examined to determine their suitability for the whitening procedure. While this treatment is appropriate for most people, it is not for everybody.

Inlays & Onlaysg

Inlays and onlays are two types of treatments that your dentist can suggest if you have a large hole in your tooth that needs to be filled. An inlay is a small filling that fits into the biting surface of a tooth while an onlay covers a larger area of the tooth and is better suited to bigger cavities. For many years, gold has been used to make inlays and onlays because it is a hard material and lasts for a long time. Nowadays, tooth-coloured porcelain is used and gives the restored tooth a more natural look, which many patients prefer.

Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are made in a dental laboratory by a technician, with the help of impressions taken of your teeth.
